WHY BUILD A FOOD FOREST?
A food forest is a self-managed climate resilient multi-layered living ecosystem with the purpose of growing food by mimicking local natural forest. These types of forests are designed with seven different layers, as opposed to the 1-2 layer found in a conventional farm. Conventional farming practices have three main challenges: (a) Soil fertility decreases, (b) High labour or energy intensive costs and (c) High water consumption. Due to these three problems, land custodian net income is reduced.
Regenerative Soil
Food forest over a period of time helps regenerate the soil structure of the land.
Self-Managed
When everything works in a cyclic arrangement, food forests can become self manageable.
Low Water Consuming
Water consumption comes down drastically with the right set of systems in place in a food forest.
Boost your Health
Healthy produce form the food forest provides you with the reqiured nutrition to be healthy.
Climate Resilient
Forests don’t disappear in drought. Given the diversity one can have in a food forest it becomes climate resilient.
Economically Viable
With various produces and inputs coming out of the food forest, makes it and economically viable option.
